I am David Radziej - pronounced "RodGee" and I’m running for the Arden Hills City Council. Radziej, is a Prussian name that means "Trusted Advisor" and I will work to build your trust in me.
I'm asking for your support and elect me to the Arden Hills City Council.
My wife, Kathy, and I have lived in the Arden Hills area for the last 32 years. Our home is near the Crepeau Nature Preserve in the southeast corner of Arden Hills.
We have raised our four children here, sending them through St. Odilia Grade School and Mounds View High School. (Go Mustangs).
My college Majors, are Finance, International Business, and Construction Management.
In 2022, I was honored to be selected to serve on the Arden Hills City Council. Having served on the Economic Development Council since 2012 and on the Finance Council since 2014, ending my stint there as Chair as I transitioned to becoming a part of the City Council, plus various Ad-hoc planning groups for the development of Rice Creek Commons/TCAAP. I am no stranger to City government or the TCAAP development.
My work experience has been directing non-profit trade associations for the last 40 years. I am currently Executive Vice President of the Minnesota Association of Plumbing Heating and Cooling Contractors. My work experience will help me bring creative, independent thinking to our city’s issues.
I am running – to bring civility and reason back to our city council – I have seen what “The Slate” (Tom Fabel, Emily Rousseau, Tena Monson called themselves) has and has not done and I am deeply concerned, almost to the point of angry, because of what “The Slate” has done to the Arden Hills residents by their actions. It is true that “The Slate” had asked me to be part of their campaign – I did not accept, as I am an independent voter and have financially supported both major parties and chose to vote my mind and vote for the betterment of Arden Hills residents.
One of “The Slate’s” first actions was to strip Mayor Grant of appointing powers. If elected I will return the appointing powers to the citizens’ elected Mayor.
After all of their promising rhetoric to move forward on TCAAP/Rice Creek Commons, “The Slate’s” sole action has been to revoke the City’s agreement with the Developer. How is this moving forward? The now-revoked agreement had provided for a fiscally sound development that represented the interests of Arden Hills residents. Canceling a mutual agreement has not moved this key City development plan forward – it has actually set it back several years. Now years later with no agreement, “The Slate” is expressing concerns about soft soils causing construction foundation issues in the proposed Town Center area. If “The Slate” had only read the soil report of 2016, they would not be so surprised. I say read before you lead.
I agree that TCAAP needs to be developed. However, I question “The Slate’s” campaign promises that they will protect the fiscal and public interests of Arden Hills. I have seen no evidence that “The Slate” members intend to protect Arden Hills; all they seem to be doing is capitulating to the County. As a Council member, I promise I will protect the current residents from the future expenses of the TCAAP development!
I recognize that being a Council member requires attendance at numerous monthly meetings and at a variety of times. I recognize this and to the best of my ability, I will make myself available and participate in all Council meetings and discussions, as well as be active on committees that I am assigned to.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
This is one of the most important topics of our generation, and after all of their promising rhetoric to move forward on TCAAP/Rice Creek Commons, “The Slate’s” sole action has been to revoke the City’s agreement with the Developer.
How is this moving forward?
The now-revoked agreement had provided for a fiscally sound development that represented the interests of Arden Hills residents. Canceling a mutually agreed upon agreement has not moved this key development forward. In fact it has set it back several years. As a Council member, I promise I will protect the current residents from the future expenses of the TCAAP development! There must be a sustainable plan with a responsible and transparent budget the residents can understand.
The area will have tremendous build-out and ongoing expenditures. TCAAP is not a 'cash cow' and current Arden Hills residents must be protected from these costs.
Arden Hills residents deserve better representation and advocacy for improved transportation systems across the city. I have a history of supporting the expansion of trails and pathways across the city.
Dave has been a neighbor for decades here in Arden Hills and has worked with a multitude of government and non-profits across the area.
Arden Hills is a special place in our region because of these spaces. As a council member, this is a top priority.
The number of trails were greatly expanded under my watch along with the maintenance of playground equipment and pickleball courts.
Send me a message, what else can be done to expand these spaces here in Arden Hills?
Closing Statements
Looking forward to seeing you at events across our city this summer. If you have an organization or event you think I should attend, let me know! It would be great to meet more of our neighbors.
Please consider helping us fund this campaign. We're going against well-connected and well-funded folks and we need your help! Even a small donation will be greatly appreciated!
